Southland Church

Why does Bird River Bible Camp give priority to Southland families and campers?

BRBC is a ministry of Southland Church, and as such is a key component of our plan to disciple Southland kids and students. As a result, we want to make sure that as many Southland families as possible have a chance to send their kids to Southland’s camp. This is difficult when every year we fill up quickly and have to put campers on a waiting list, thus we give Southland attendees first priority in registering their children.

Why does it cost more for someone who isn’t a Southland attendee to send their child to BRBC?

Each year we use money set aside for missions to subsidize campers who want to go to camp. The price a non-Southlander pays more accurately reflects the actual cost per camper to attend.

Friend Request

Can my child request a friend to be in their cabin?

Campers are grouped in cabins based on gender as well as table or cell group at church and age.

Campers may request to be in the same cabin with a friend.  It is important for both campers to make the request on their application form.  We will try to accommodate these requests to the best of our ability.

Transportation

Is transportation available to and from camp?

The bus ride to and from camp is included in the fee for campers.  A coach taking registered campers to camp will be leaving from Southland Church on the first day of each camp (time to be announced).  A coach will be returning to Southland Church on the last day of each camp (time to be announced).  Please indicate on the registration form as to whether or not your child will be taking this form of transportation.

What to Pack

What should my child(ren) bring to camp?

Packing for camp can be challenging. Here is a list of some items you don’t want to forget to bring – and a list of what should stay at home!

Health, Safety & Medication

What kind of medical care is available for my child while at camp?

Camper’s health and safety is our number one priority. A qualified medical professional is on duty during all camp sessions and all leadership staff have standard first aid training.

Complete hospital and medical services are available within 20 minutes of the camp.  In case of an emergency, the parents/guardians listed on the camper’s application will be contacted.  However, should the parents/guardians not be available at the time of the call, the Emergency Contacts listed on the application will be notified.

In the event a doctor prescribes medication for your child during his/her stay, the parents/guardians will be contacted and billed for the cost of the prescription

Food Allergies

What if my child has food allergies or special dietary needs?

Because we prioritize the safety of children and see the impact that food service can have on a child's experience at camp, our kitchen works hard to accommodate special diet requests and/or allergy restrictions. For your convenience, we've included a list of items that we do and do not accommodate:

We Accommodate*:

  • Gluten-free (allergy, celiac disease, gluten intolerance)
  • Dairy-free (allergy and intolerance)
  • Peanut-free
  • Tree nut-free
  • Fish/Shellfish-free
  • *Based on allergies or medically diagnosed diet restrictions.

We Don't Accommodate Diet PREFERENCES including, but not limited to:

  • Gluten-free
  • Dairy-free
  • Keto
  • Vegetarian*
  • Vegan*
  • Paleo
  • Kosher
  • Halal
  • *Case-by-case, we have allowed campers with these diets to come to camp and choose what they would like to eat (with specific parental consent).

We will do our best to ensure there is no cross-contamination in the process of special diet food preparation and that allergies/medically diagnosed diet restrictions are taken seriously. But, as in any other food industry, there is always the chance that ingredients may have come into contact with any specific allergen at any given point.

Meals at camp are served three times a day with dessert served after dinner, plus, two additional snack times each day. Our kitchen works hard to create a variety of tasty options as we hold to a standard of providing a balanced diet as per the Canada Food Guide. Please contact us if your child has special dietary needs so that we can further discuss what we are able to accommodate. And don’t forget to fill out special diets and/or allergies on the application!

We charge a $30 additional cost for campers who require a special diet (this allows us to purchase the necessary ingredients required).
